Who are the Westmareeners?

The Westmareeners, originally chartered by the United Presbyterian Church USA, began at Westminster in 1953 as a club for married couples. Using a nautical theme and terminology for descriptions of the group and their activities, they have built a history of fellowship and mission.

The original three-fold purpose of the Mariners:
1) " A Safe Voyage - no shipwrecks" (Christian marriage): To this end they employ a spirit of helpful discussion to the problems of the modern home, hea speakers who may make contributions that will help to happily fill the place of husband, wife, and parents.
2) "Happy Decks" (Christian fellowship): Knowing that wholesome recreation, entertainment, and social contact outside the home contribute toward balanced living.
3) "Carrying Cargo" (Christian service): Untertaking contructive service for the Church and community.

In 1976 the group chartered a new course, encouraging singles as well as married folks to jump on board to develop a closer relationship with their Christian faith and enjoy meaningful social activities.

Among the many fun times, is the Westmareeners tradition of the Annual Pancake Supper. For 51 years the crew has shown that rowing together will always produce smooth sailing. The Pancake Supper is so much more than just a wonderful meal, but also a time of laughter and fellowship.

The Westmareeners are a jolly crew, and though times have changed throughout their service, the crew continues to sail forward to help in uncharted waters. Climb on board to enjoy a variety of activities and entertainment. Gatherings are normally held the third Friday of each month September through May. Continue to check the web site and the calendar to see what's on board each month.

Mariners in Christ United
by Frank vonChristierson

Mariners in Christ united, for our homes, our church, our God,
joyously we serve together following where His feet have trod.
May His Spirit rule us ever, guiding us through storm and calm.
May His love inspire forever making life a triumph psalm!

Teach us, Lord, to read the scriptures, chart and compass our way;
Help us bear a worthy cargo; Pilot us from shoals away.
Fill our homes with peace and gladness: Be our welcome holy Guest.
Strengthen us in trial and sadness, may we all in Thee be blest.

Thou, our Pilot; we, Thy seamen, mastering all life's surging waves,
trusting in the Cross of Jesus with a faith that heals and saves.
Keep us strong, united, faithful 'til the appointed course be run;
then the summons to the Harbor,"Come ye blessed, come...Well done!"
